Call me old fashioned, but I have always believed that the purpose of marketing is to generate sales or money for the individual or business implementing the marketing strategy. While going viral may be a step in the right direction, this really isn’t the be all and end all. It’s simply a stepping stone that some take to help build a following, however, this following has to remain consistent
For this to happen, the marketer has to consistently put out quality content. When the marketer is making a reliable return on investment then the marketing campaign can be considered a success, it’s unlikely that this will happen overnight though.
One rule of thumb is to ensure that the content stays “on brand”. This will stop marketers attracting the wrong audience or losing existing audience.
Marketers should avoid simple mistakes such as: looking like they are just trying to make money, going off brand, not posting consistently and keeping content relevant to the platform that it’s being posted on.
