Epic Games really got into the spirit of Christmas with their daily games giveaway this year, but the game they gave away on Christmas day surprised everyone, and to some extent Epic themselves. The triple A Kojima directed title Death Stranding was Epic Games Christmas gift, but it appears Epic misjudged just how popular their giveaway would be. Demand on the Epic Games services lead to outtages and a few unhappy people who were unable to claim the game.
After some time, Epic themselves appear to have replaced the version of the game they were offering. Initially the giveaway featured the Directors Cut of the game, but when the servers came back to life, the game had seemingly been replaced with the standard version.
Death Stranding is an action game developed by Kojima Productions and
published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released in November 2019 for the PlayStation 4 and in July 2020 for Windows. The game was directed, written, and designed by Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear series.
