The Celebratory Meal

December 23, 2022
Right at the beginning of this project, Mr and Miss Squid made a promise to each other. A promise that kept each one of them motivated throughout, a promise that would not go unforgotten.

Mr and Miss Squid promised each other that they would go for the best, most succulent, "super filling, most sickly but absolutely no regrets after" burger. Within a week of setting the site live, they went for their celebratory meal.
The table was booked for 8.30. We'll admit that we did arrive a few minutes late owing to the complete lack of parking in the usual spots when we drove around three times, which did miraculously reappear when we ended up walking past. Sod's law.
When we arrived, we were greeted and told that our table was just being wiped down and asked if we wanted to have a seat in the bar area. The bar was pretty crowded, however, we were lucky in that we managed to find two spare stools to perch on which was good as it took at least 15 minutes to wipe down a table for 2. We decided against ordering drinks until we'd seen the menu as Miss Squid knew they had a selection of cocktails and although Mr Squid said "he doesn't really do cocktails", she thought there might well be one on the menu to tempt him.
Finally, we were called to our table. Now, the menu for this restaurant is available online and both Mr and Miss Squid had been eyeing up what they intended to have. So when the waitress came to take their drinks order, they ordered drinks and food together. Mr Squid did order a cocktail and Miss Squid knew she'd be having one from the outset. They were ready to eat and to toast their hardwork.
The Squids sat at their table and made civil chit-chat like adults, while they waited. They discussed how far  Screaming Squid had evolved just over the course of the website development and spitballed ideas as to how and what they wanted to do in order to keep progressing things. Time passed, more time passed. Neither food nor drinks had been delivered to the table yet, not only were Mr and Miss Squid hungry but they were also parched.
Mr Squid pointed out how long it had been and Miss Squid flagged down a waitress to see if they could just get their drinks as they'd ordered them some time ago. Neither Mr or Miss Squid are unreasonable folk and they understand that sometimes service gets backed up, however, they figured they should have at least had their drinks by this point.
Suddenly, "The Squids" table was surrounded by a flurry of waitresses and waters wanting to confirm what had been ordered, that they hadn't eaten yet, apologising profusely and insisting that the drinks would be taken off the bill by way off apology as well. In honesty, Mr and Miss Squid weren't too fussed about this, although they appreciated the gesture, they ultimately just wanted their food.
The Squids received their complimentary drinks quickly and their food didn't take long to follow. Both Mr and Miss Squid were ready for both. Now, there is no "tidy" way of eating this food. Miss Squid knew this and so just went for it, Mr Squid didn't take long to follow her lead. Luckily, neither seem to judge the other. Both ate until they couldn't eat another bite.
That evening both Mr and Miss Squid ended up in a food coma, the following day neither could eat breakfast. It wasn't until lunchtime that they managed something small (e.g. a chocolate bar) as they were still so full from the food they'd had the night before. Yes, they'd had to wait but it was worth it and Mr and Miss Squid may well head back there again when they hit future milestones.
